Oura Ring 4 vs. Whoop

As you know, I’ve been wearing a Whoop tracker since August of last year, to get an idea of my daily metrics around sleep, activity, heart rate and variability, and other biometrics related to longevity. I’m happy with the Whoop, other than the wrist location, watch-like design. It can be worn on the body in specially designed clothing, but I have not gone that route.

So when Whoop upgraded their hardware, I had to decide whether to upgrade my device or try a competitor.

The closest in metrics and results currently I feel is the Oura Ring 4.

What’s New?

Oura has stepped up its game with Smart Sensing technology, which adapts to your unique physiology to deliver precise, continuous health data. The ring’s 18-path multi-wavelength PPG subsystem ensures highly accurate tracking of metrics like heart rate variability (HRV), sleep stages, temperature trends, and more.

And let’s talk about comfort—Oura Ring 4 ditches the raised sensor domes for a flush design, meaning no more awkward pressure on your fingers. Plus, it’s available in sizes 4 through 15, so finding the perfect fit is easier than ever.

Why You’ll Love It

  • All-Day Wearability – Whether you’re hitting the gym or heading out for dinner, this ring blends seamlessly into your lifestyle.
  • Stress & Activity Tracking – New features like Daytime Stress and Automatic Activity Detection help you stay on top of your wellness.
  • Long Battery Life – Up to 8 days of battery life means less time charging and more time tracking.
  • Subscription Perks – While the ring itself starts at $349, an Oura Membership ($5.99/month or $69.99/year) unlocks deeper insights.

Final Thoughts

The Oura Ring 4 isn’t just another wearable—it’s a personal health companion designed to help you make meaningful, long-term changes. Whether you’re optimizing your sleep, managing stress, or just curious about your body’s rhythms, this smart ring delivers.

The Oura Ring will spend about a month getting to know me and my daily routing, just as the Whoop did. So I am wearing both for the time being to be able to make as close a comparison as possible. I’ll keep you posted!
