Today I took my first Viome Oral Health Intelligence test. It’s the first of its kind – providing insight for oral microbiome health. And as one adverse to the dentist (since my traumatic childhood of all too regular visits), I could not be more thrilled.
For the first time I’ll get a report on the current state of my oral health. As the Viome website explains:
Our Oral Health Solutions provide everything you need to understand what’s happening in your mouth and how to improve it with a personalized, targeted approach. Your personalized toothpaste & gel and lozenge formulas are based on your test results, ensuring you get the maximum benefit from your formula’s ingredients.
Numerous factors, including high levels of harmful bacteria, high mouth acidity, alcohol & smoking, teeth grinding, off-the-shelf toothpaste, antibacterial mouthwashes, and the use of various beauty products, can all compromise your oral microbiome. If left unaddressed, these issues can significantly impact your overall health. With Viome, you’re not just getting a superficial, temporary fix—we’re committed to safeguarding your health for the long term.
We aim to turn your oral bacteria into beneficial allies, ensuring they work for you, not against you, to foster a more resilient oral microbiome that supports long-lasting fresh breath, protects your teeth, and fortifies your gums from inflammation.”
And once the results are calculated, I’ll receive the first personalized toothpaste I’ve ever used. Can’t wait to see how that stacks up! I will certainly keep you posted. Have you tried Viome Oral Health Intelligence? Let me know in the comments.
UPDATE: Oral Health Results – September 2024
My test results are back! And they aren’t super surprising, though also not terrific. My overall score was 44, which is out of 100. The results were also broken down into subcategories: dental health, gum health, oral pathogen activity, oral active microbial diversity, and more.
I received my VRx My·Biotics™ Toothpaste & Gel (AM + PM Formulas) a few days later. The AM Formula is designed to clean your teeth and breakdown plaque. It has a pleasant taste, coconut foam and is easy on sensitive teeth. The PM Formula is quite unusual, it is a remineralizer and protects enamel. It also contains many ingredients that feed your gut microbiome while you sleep – which is why it is recommended that you swallow the evening formula and do not rinse after brushing with it. While this also has a pleasant taste (and no foam), I’m not sure I can make the mental hurdle of swallowing my toothpaste. LOL – something I was forbidden to do as a child. But we’ll see. I have managed to resist rinsing. Keep you posted!
